The second iteration of the federal government’s Government Enterprise Empowerment Programme (GEEP) has been released.
At the weekend, Katsina State’s Daura Kasuwar Kofar ‘Yan Kudu market hosted the national phase of the program’s introduction by Sadiya Umar Farouq, the minister of humanitarian affairs, disaster management, and social development.
She stated that the interest-free loans to recipients were in keeping with President Muhammadu Buhari’s declared commitment to combat poverty and its terrible effects from all angles during the presentation of checks to peasant farmers and small businesswomen.
Only 13,000 of the 59,161 potential beneficiaries who had been registered across the 34 LGAs of Katsina State had been validated and approved to receive the interest-free loans for the program’s first phase, and new registration has yet to begin.
More vulnerable persons and groups are anticipated to openly register at National Orientation Agency offices by GEEP-trained desk officers across the 774 LGAs nationally in 2023, the ministry will publicly announce.
The minister claimed that the beneficiaries could be verified and that a transparent selection process had been followed.
“These chosen beneficiaries are now all banked, they have all been given ATM cards, and they are currently being enumerated,” she added, adding that all of these actions were purposeful attempts to increase the financial inclusion of our poor in a lasting way.
Three distinctive products are available through GEEP 2.0: Tradermoni loan of N50,000, MarketMoni loan of N50,000 for underprivileged and marginalized women, such as widows, divorcees, and other vulnerable groups, and FarmerMoni loan of N50,000 to N300,000 for small-scale farmers in the communities to increase their agricultural productivity and inclusion.
