The majority of nursing programs, particularly those that solely grant Register Nursing (RN) degrees, won’t urge prospective students to take the UTME. As a result, not all nursing schools or colleges require a set of cut-off scores.
A few schools of health information management (health-tech), colleges of education, all universities, polytechnics, and initiative enterprise institutes (IEI) are typically under JAMB’s authority.
The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria and the Hospital Management Board of the institution of interest jointly oversee the nursing program. Thus, you can enroll in the vast majority of these universities that offer nursing programs without having to pass the JAMB exam.
The cut-off scores for nursing programs at universities will be drawn. Obviously, they don’t accept the same grade. For instance, although certain JAMB institutions accept scores of 200 or more, others may demand as high as 250 before an applicant has a chance.
In fact, you should score between 250 and 270 on the UTME for any university before you can be certain of a chance at admission. The competition in this class is insane.
To learn what they expect of you, look at the post-UTME advertisements of the university you’re considering. However, just because the ads say “200 and above” doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll accept the 200. Only those with the highest test scores will be admitted, starting with that standard.
Polytechnics With Nursing Programs Require JAMB And Set Cut-Off Scores
In the truest sense, polytechnics do not provide nursing as a course. Because other traditional polytechnics also really award ND/HND in their curricula, some individuals confuse nursing colleges that grant ND/HND degrees for polytechnics.
The List of Polytechnics/Colleges Offering Nursing in Nigeria provides more information after it has been determined that colleges of nursing that offer ND/HND in nursing are also known as polytechnics that offer nursing.
Like other polytechnics and colleges, these schools, as mentioned in the previous section, require prospective applicants to obtain the JAMB UTME form, sit for the exams, pass, and achieve or surpass their cut-off scores before they can be considered for the course.

For instance, the Nigerian Army College of Nursing in Yaba, Lagos provides ND/HND in Nursing and typically requires candidates to score at least 160 in the UTME in order to acquire an application. Obafemi Awolowo University, Teaching Hospital, Ile-Ife demands 150 or higher for admission to the school of nursing.
Therefore, JAMB is required for these group of schools that also teach nursing.
How Do Nursing Schools And Colleges That Don’t Require JAMB Get Admitted?
How will nursing schools and colleges admit students now that JAMB will no longer be required?
Below is a description of the application process for nursing schools that do not require JAMB scores:
1. The hospital administration would publicize the sale of entry forms for institutions like UITCH, UNILORIN TCH, FMC Ido-Ekiti, LUTH, School of Nursing Kaduna, FCT School of Nursing, etc.
2. Interested candidates should pick up their forms on-campus or online (depending on the method being used by the college)
3. If an application is accepted, candidates will be given a date and time for entrance exams or tests (not JAMB but regular entrance exams)
4. The management will then mark the cut-off points. For instance, if the test’s overall score is 100, they can require a minimum score of 60 to qualify for the next interview. Better results come from a higher score.
5. The next step is the interview, which often consists of an oral interactive session and a physical examination of the candidates’ O-level scores and credentials.
6. Those that passed the test and the interview will then be placed on the admissions list.
