NCLD’s mission statement is “Let no kid be denigrated or have their wonder lessened by our ignorance or inaction”; No adult should be denied the opportunity to study because we lack the tools to determine what they need to know; Never let anyone, youngsters or adults, question their own intelligence or self-worth because we are dubious about our commitment.
About The Scholarship
A graduating high school senior who plans to enroll in a two-year community college, a vocational or technical training program, or a special program for students with LD and/or ADHD in the fall is eligible to apply for the Allegra Ford Thomas Scholarship, a $5,000 award given over two years ($2,500 each year). Students must be diagnosed with either ADHD or a learning disability (LD).
Additional Information
Reading, writing, numeracy, organization, focus, listening comprehension, social skills, motor skills, or a mix of these challenges are all brain-based difficulties with learning disabilities and ADHD. Dyslexia, dyscalculia, and other learning and attention disorders, as well as ADHD, are examples of learning difficulties. Other people might also refer to them as learning disparities. Many learners with disabilities attend school with an IEP (Individualized Education Plan) or a 504 Plan. For the purposes of NCLD, autism spectrum disorder is not regarded as a learning disability.
The application does require documentation of a learning problem and/or ADHD. An IEP (Individualized Education Plan), a 504 Plan, or a doctor’s note outlining your condition can serve as this paperwork. Please send an email to [email protected] if you have any queries about the documentation.
