The story of BlackRock is one of fresh thinking, collaborative progress, and new ideas.
Our founders set out in 1988 to build a better asset management company—one that was data- and technology-driven, purpose-driven, client- and risk-focused, and driven by clients. The information, people, and technology required to manage money are all connected through our ground-breaking Aladdin® platform, which combined trading, risk management, and reporting onto a single system.
We’ve grown over the years from an eight-person start-up to a worldwide organization that is trusted to manage more assets than any other investment manager. Delivering long-term value to our clients and shareholders has always been our primary goal.
And because we have spent more than 30 years deliberately investing in the growth of our platform, technology, and people, we have the capacity to build better portfolios that enable an increasing number of people to enjoy financial well-being and, eventually, better futures.
Eight entrepreneurs who intended to create a radically different organization launched BlackRock 34 years ago. one that brought together the best qualities of a financial innovator and a technology pioneer. And one that brought together a wide range of viewpoints in service of a single goal: improving the quality of life for the parents, grandparents, doctors, and teachers who daily entrust us with their money and futures. With more than $5.7 trillion under management and the greatest corporations and governments in the world coming to us for help with their most difficult financial issues, we have grown to become the largest investment manager in the world.
Future BlackRock leaders who can assist us in overcoming these obstacles and influencing the years to come are what we’re searching for. The success of our business is not solely attributable to the eight founders; it also stems from the tens of thousands of gifted individuals who have worked at the Firm every day since. We are constantly seeking new viewpoints and innovative concepts. To help student leaders from underrepresented groups receive more exposure to—and have a bigger say in shaping—our Firm and our industry, we’re happy to offer the BlackRock Founders Scholarship.
