Malwarebytes Inc
Malwarebytes Inc. is an American internet security firm that focuses on defending businesses, homes, and mobile devices from malware and other threats. It has offices in Cork, Ireland; Tallinn, Estonia; Clearwater, Florida; Bastia Umbra, Italy; and Santa Clara, California.
Background and earlier times
In 2004, Malwarebytes Inc. was formally founded. Marcin Kleczynski, the company’s CEO and founder and a native of Poland, was still an adolescent attending high school in Bensenville, Illinois, and working as a technician in a Chicago computer repair shop at the time.
Even if the infection was just slight, he saw that whenever infected machines arrived, the store would frequently reformat the computer completely rather than attempt to remove the virus.
He later recalled, “I’ve never been as angry as when I got my computer infected,” and claimed that his mother had told him to fix it “under penalty of death.” Later, Kleczynski discovered that neither McAfee nor Symantec would remove the malware from his system when his mother’s computer became infected. Only after posting on the well-known SpywareInfo forum at the time did Kleczynski discover how to eliminate the malware, which took three days.
Following this, Kleczynski started corresponding with and befriending several of the forum administrators, who persuaded him to purchase an unclaimed domain from them, which is when the firm was formally created.
Together with Bruce Harrison, a frequent visitor to the website, Kleczynski created the first version of the business’s software.
In 2006, Kleczynski and a fellow college student created “RogueRemover,” a tool that was freely downloadable and specialized in combating “rogue” infections, which trick computer users into disclosing their credit card information by using phony anti-virus software.
Kleczynski and Harrison officially launched Malwarebytes on January 21, 2008, while Kleczynski was studying computer science at the University of Illinois.
RogueRemover proved helpful in the development of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, and Kleczynski was able to set up a forum that allowed him to improve the software through feedback .
Bruce became the VP of Research for Malwarebytes, and further hired Doug Swanson, who had experience in freeware development, to work Marcus Chung, a former employee of GreenBorder and an expert in e-commerce, was hired as the company’s chief operating officer.
Despite never having met in person, Kleczynski and Harrison reportedly made $600,000 in their first year of selling the software.
At Malwarebytes, we think that thriving is possible when you are safe from dangers. It all began with one person seeking assistance for a malware infestation, which sparked a community effort to find answers. At that very moment, a product was created for everyone with the aim of eradicating malware.
