We are aware of how important it is to invest in future workers of the construction sector. We take it a step further, though. People who exhibit promise and a desire to contribute to the construction of a better future are awarded a number of scholarships.

American Association of General Contractors (AGC)
The Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) is a trade association for the American construction industry, and it has its headquarters in Arlington, Virginia.
History
The AGC was established in November 1918 to address issues found during World War I. The federal government requested that the United States in 1912. All business organizations will fall under the purview of the Chamber of Commerce. The founding members of AGC attended a meeting held by the Chamber in Atlantic City, New Jersey, in the spring of 1918, but they felt it was overly subcontractor-focused. In the fall of 1918, the group that would later become the founding members got together in Chicago and later founded AGC.
Mission
Efforts in the Commonwealth to attract and train skilled laborers for the construction industry are supported by the nonprofit AGCVA Educational Foundation.
Vision
The AGCVA Educational Foundation will encourage careers in Virginia’s construction industry by providing financial and other support for workforce development initiatives, including craft training, career orientation programs and job fairs, mentoring, professional development, Hard Hat Camps, scholarships and other grants, and other activities focused on the industry’s workforce.
Recent events include:
• Grants for college students interested in construction careers;
• The yearly high school carpentry competition at the state fair
• An interactive, hands-on building program in conjunction with a sizable construction project at the Science Museum of Virginia;
• A Shenandoah Valley skills competition for electrical, carpentry, HVAC, and students
• Support for the ACE Program, a mentoring program for high school students interested in engineering and architecture careers, in Charlottesville and Richmond (a mentoring program for high school students interested in careers in Architecture & Construction and Engineering).

About The Scholarship
Zachary Fletchall (Harman Construction), the Valley District’s president at the time of his passing, is honored by the AGCVA Valley District with these scholarships.
Residents of the Valley District’s counties (Augusta, Clarke, Frederick, Highland, Page, Rockingham, Shenandoah, and Warren) who are students or those pursuing a career change are encouraged to apply. The application details all necessary requirements for the perfect candidate(s) (s).
The AGCVA Valley District provides funding for the Zachary Fletchall Memorial Construction Scholarships. Each award will be worth $1,000.
Eligibility
1. The applicant must be an American national.
2. The applicant must be enrolled full-time in high school or if attending a post-high school institution, full- or part-time.
3. Candidates are encouraged to reside in the AGCVA Valley District counties of Augusta, Clarke, Frederick, Highland, Page, Rockingham, Shenandoah, and Warren.
4. The applicant must be submitting an application to or be enrolled in a college, university, community college, or other accredited institution.
5. On a scale of 4.0, the applicant’s grade point average must be at least 2.5.
6. Each year, past applicants, including former scholarship holders, are welcome to apply.
7. By April 8, 2023, the application must be complete and all supporting documentation must be stamped.
Application Method
The applicant must send the required paperwork, with a postmark deadline of TBD.

2. Official transcript from high school (appropriately sealed with signature of a counselor)
3. Transcripts from colleges and universities after high school
4. Reference letter that has been filled out and delivered to the candidate in a sealed envelope by a member of their academic community.
Selection
Members of the AGCVA Valley District Executive Committee will examine the applications. Academic achievement, extracurricular and leadership activities, community involvement, and future ambitions in the construction business will all be taken into consideration when selecting recipients. The Valley District Executive Committee has the option to withhold any awards if there are no eligible, qualified candidates.
