We value education highly because we are aware of the significant social and economic obstacles that LGBTQ persons must face. We have worked with donors for nearly 15 years to establish scholarships that offer exceptional opportunities and access to education, both in New York City and across the nation.
SCHOLARSHIP SPONSORS
STONEWALL FOUNDATION
Stonewall was founded in 1990 through donations, and as the neighborhood changed, so did our identity. We adopted a focus on small, grassroots charities and the most vulnerable populations; we increased both our fundraising and grantmaking, and community involvement was thoughtfully woven throughout our work.
By making wise, values-based investments in cutting-edge companies, initiatives, and leaders, we improve the LGBTQ community and Movement. Additionally, as a public foundation, we work closely with contributors and those who are actively advancing society.
. We provide funding to hundreds of charities working on more than 30 different issues to achieve racial, social, and economic justice as well as LGBT liberation. In addition, we host six distinctive scholarship programs, including the biggest one in the nation for LGBTQ refugees and asylum seekers.
Along with our grantmaking, we also run intense training and capacity-building initiatives that provide local leaders with the skills they need to be powerful changemakers. Free consultations, coaching opportunities, and regular workshops are some of these. Making sure community funds have an impact is our top priority in all we do, from seed fundraising to planned giving.
The LGBTQ nonprofit sector was thriving against the terrible backdrop of the AIDS crisis in the 1980s. Numerous organizations popped up in New York City to deal with urgent problems, and as a result, the demand for resources increased. Our founders came up with a solution: they established a foundation that was run by and for us, one that would help legacy-building through personal donations.
OUR IDEALS
While generosity may be a sign of love and concern, in our opinion it also exercises power. As a result, we work hard to set an example of equitable leadership and to be responsible, open, and reliable in how we conduct business and further our goals. Making philanthropy available to everyone and providing people with the freedom to live lives that go beyond the binary of simply being benefactors or beneficiaries are examples of this.
We support focusing on and investing in the leadership of those who are most vulnerable in our communities, as well as giving top priority to problems that have the most negative impact on the lives of LGBTQ people. With that said, we are firmly committed to empowering all communities of color, as well as transgender, gender non-conforming, and non-binary individuals. We also pledge to combat racism and anti-Blackness, as well as to aid organizations that assist illegal immigrants and those who depend on survival economies.
