SIMON YOUTH FOUNDATION INFORMATION
National nonprofit organization Simon Youth Foundation (SYF) is dedicated to assisting kids in completing their education. By collaborating with regional public school districts to establish Simon Youth Academies, alternative learning environments that are primarily located in Simon Malls, SYF works toward achieving this mission. Additionally, SYF offers Simon Youth Scholarships to Academy graduates and students who reside nearby Simon Malls. Since its founding, SYF has helped approximately 22,000 students achieve their high school diplomas at its 42 Simon Youth Academies in 15 states, maintaining a 90 percent graduation record while providing $19 million in scholarships.
According to Dr. J. Michael Durnil, President and CEO of SYF, “Shari Simon Greenberg actively championed opportunities for kids with ignored or unrealized potential to pursue their ambitions via education since the foundation of Simon Youth Foundation in 1998. We are grateful that the Board decided to memorialize Shari by renaming the Simon Youth Foundation’s community scholarship program the Shari Simon Greenberg Community Scholarship Program, ensuring Shari’s legacy will live on for years to come.
In addition to dedicating its community scholarship program to Shari, the SYF Board of Directors posthumously awarded Shari Simon Greenberg the title of Emeritus Board Member.
Seniors living in Simon mall communities who are graduating will receive Shari Simon Greenberg Community Scholarships per year. A one-time award worth up to $1,500 is available to scholarship winners. This money can be used to pay for tuition at a recognized college, university, vocational institution, or technical institute.
