SCHOLARSHIP SPONSOR

THE NATIONAL CHILDREN’S CANCER SOCIETY (NCCS)

For more than ten years, the National Children’s Cancer Society (NCCS) has assisted cancer survivors in achieving their academic and professional objectives. Through the Beyond the Cure Ambassador Scholarship Program, which will give $3,500 college scholarships to 40 deserving students for the 2023–2024 academic year, the NCCS is happy to carry on with this work. Over $1 million in scholarships have been given by the organization to pediatric cancer survivors nationwide to date.

. These young adult survivors have discussions about the problems they will encounter in life as a result of the email thread. Students are more likely to succeed in pursuing additional degrees, creating occupations (often focused on helping others), and serving their communities if they have recommendations and advice from peers who fully understand their experience as cancer survivors. According to Pam Gabris, program coordinator for Beyond the Cure, “the scholarship program provides a real community, one that links young adult survivors together even if they live in various states and attend different schools.” She continued, “The students’ involvement also helps the NCCS better understand the needs and difficulties of college-age survivors.”

Jennifer demonstrated her dedication to serving as an NCCS ambassador by taking part in the regular email thread and by hosting an NCCS information table at an event that took place at the hospital where she works. She has set a high bar for accomplishing her goals and giving back to the community. At the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, the same medical center where she received treatment for her struggle with hepatoblastoma when she was two years old, Jennifer enthusiastically accepted her dream nursing position in pediatric oncology.

As Jennifer can tell from receiving the Beyond the Cure scholarship on multiple occasions, the financial aid and other program support were crucial in helping her accomplish her objectives. “I was able to attend a school with a highly demanding nursing curriculum thanks to the Beyond the Cure scholarship, which contributed to the chances I’ve had after graduation in my job and graduate education.”
