SCHOLARSHIP SPONSOR
WTS FOUNDATION
The WTS Foundation was established in 2009 by WTS International as a bold move to encourage the progress of women in the transportation industry.
WTS International, formerly known as Women’s Transportation Seminar, has worked to advance women in the transportation sector since 1977.
Professional societies generally prevented women from joining, unless the events were deemed instructional. A trailblazing group of women responded by planning luncheons and workshops that were accepted as “seminars.” They helped one another, promoted one another through their contacts, and started to imagine a transportation sector that was more inclusive, varied, and equal.
With more than 40,000 transportation experts working in the field today, WTS International is a vital and important component of that sector. WTS has 65 professional chapters and more than 8,500 members.
In order to support the next generation of transportation professionals and advance the principles of WTS, the organization has awarded millions of dollars in scholarships to deserving women and students throughout the transportation industry thanks to the generosity of thousands of WTS members and supporters. It has also developed educational and awareness programs like Transportation YOU.
In order to advance women in transportation, the Foundation:
• Increasing the number of scholarships available to women seeking degrees in the transportation industry.
• Offering and encouraging educational opportunities and professional advancement for women in transportation
• Starting, funding, and publishing studies that aim to advance women in the transportation industry.
Since the bulk of scholarships and events are a crucial component of chapters’ programming, WTS chapters are the focus of many of the Foundation’s operations.
